About Fraunhofer IPA

Fraunhofer is the largest research organization for applied research in Europe. Its research fields are orientated towards man’s needs: health, safety, communication, mobility, energy and the environment. With over 1000 employees and an annual budget of over 60 million euros, Fraunhofer IPA is one of the largest institutes within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. More than one third of its budget originating from projects to improve industrial manufacturing processes through Industrie 4.0 technologies and lately to improve product capabilities by equipping them with additional software services.

The 13 departments of Fraunhofer IPA are supplemented by six business units: Automotive, Machinery and Equipment Industry, Electronics and Microsystems, Power Industry, Medical Engineering and Biotechnology as well as Process Industry. This structure enables us to help our practice partners improve their market position as well as support their market entry into new application fields.

Main role in DIATOMIC

Fraunhofer IPA leads WP2 which establishes the DIATOMIC DIHs exploiting its expertise from acceleration activities in the manufacturing domain. It also heavily contributes in WP3 (DIATOMIC push experiments) where it sets up the manufacturing experimentation facility (leading task 3.4) and integrates its Virtual Fort Knox platform with other platforms to facilitate the implementation of Agrifood and Health application experiments. Finally, it provides technical support of DIATOMIC beneficiaries in WP5 and supports DIATOMIC dissemination and exploitation activities in WP6.
